We are all extremely excited by the news that LIPSTIKKA, the phenomenal feature by director Jonathan Sagall, is going to be in competition at the Berlinale! This is the first time one of our films has competed there, and is the perfect end to what has been an exceptional year for Sound Disposition. We had our suspicions that the film would do well – from the first viewing it stood out as a great and challenging piece of cinema.

The film – a UK/Israeli co-production – has been the subject of a great deal of controversy, most of it undeserved and unrelated to the film itself! You can read about this here:

Clockwise – Qatar’s first ever feature film

We had the pleasure being a part of a historic project this year – the first ever feature film to be shot and produced in the country of Qatar. The director is Khalifa Almuraikhi.

The story of the film revolves around the ancient music of Fidjeri, a form of folk-music supposedly so beautiful that it was handed down from the spirit world to the human realm. It spans decades, following the fortunes of the musician Atique and his adopted son Saad.

I was brought on board to supervise the post sound and music. The composer was Maciek Dobrowolski, and on a very tight schedule he managed to create a phenomenal score. You can hear extracts of it here, and see some photos from the recording sessions in Poland here.

The sound design and editorial was carried out in London at Sound Disposition, and I then travelled to Thailand for the final mix, which was carried out at Technicolor in Bangkok.

We are expecting a release in the gulf soon, and hopefully a wider release will follow.

New website live!

After a lot of head-scratching we’ve put the latest working draft of the new site live today. We still need to add a bunch of stuff – photos of the studios, more info about the films, and much more besides. Comments/feedback most welcome.

Dead Happy on Sky!

Dead Happy, the 3rd short film from Nicky Lianos, is screening on Sky Movies Indie HD twice in advance of the premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Sound Disposition was proud to provide all sound services, including location, post, and music recording for this fantastic short!

WWF Documentary

Marc has recently returned from Lausanne, Switzerland, where he spent a long and tiring week recording sound for a corporate documentary about the World Wildlife Fund’s drive to promote its Climate Savers scheme to big businesses around the world.

From their website:

“Leading corporations are partnering with WWF to establish ambitious targets to voluntarily reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. By 2010, the Climate Savers companies will collectively cut carbon emissions by some 14 million tons annually – the equivalent of taking more than 3 million cars off the road every year. By increasing efficiency, Climate Savers companies are saving hundreds of millions of dollars, proving again that protecting the environment makes good business sense.”

This is one of many projects that Sound Disposition has been involved in with Deliverers. We have also collaborated on films for Adidas, Microsoft, Dell, Johnson & Johnson, Astrazeneca, and many more besides.

Roland records music for ‘Lamia’

Roland recently recorded the music for ‘Lamia’, the Radio 4 New Years Day play.

The music was written by John Harle, and featured Sarah Leonard. We’ll try to get some extracts on the site soon.
